Who are we?
The website https://beachclean.org is a project that has been developed by Just One Ocean in order to support beach cleaning events around the world by bringing together volunteers and organisers. It is a free service that seeks to help protect the natural environment and in particular coastlines and beaches. Just One Ocean is a registered charity (registration number 1180364 in England and Wales).
General Data Protection
We take data protection very seriously and one of our main priorities is the privacy of our visitors. The purpose of this policy document is to explain how and why we use your personal data. As you browse this website, register for a beach clean or submit your own beach clean for submission to this site we will collect information. This enables us to provide you with the information you need to either participate in beach cleans or organise them and recruit volunteers. The more information we have the more efficient we will be at doing this.
What information do we collect?
We collect your personal information in order to enhance and support the Just One Ocean charity’s legitimate aims and objectives.
When you register for a beach clean, organise a beach clean, submit data to our scientific research programmes or communicate with us in any form we will collect your personal data. This will include for example:
- Personal data, such as name, date of birth, address, email and telephone number.
- If you participate in our scientific research surveys we will record demographic details such as marital status, level of education and employment.
- Details of interests and preferences in order to provide you with specific information in the future.
We may also generate data based on the analysis of the information you provide for us. For example we may build a profile to help us determine whether we should invite you to be involved in additional projects and activities that we think you might be interested in.
How do we use your information?
Communication – We use your personal data to be able to communicate with you and promote the legitimate objectives of the Just One Ocean charity. By registering with us, you are automatically opting in to receiving communications from Just One Ocean and beachclean.org You will be offered the option to opt-out in every communication that you receive.
Administration – We use your information in order to carry out day to day administrative requirements such as maintaining databases.
Research – If you have registered on any of our citizen science research programme we will use your personal information and the data that you provide us, including images, in our scientific analysis and report writing
Profiling – We may analyse your profile in order to identify projects that you might be interested in and communicate those opportunities with you.
We will not, under any circumstances, share your data with anyone for marketing purposes and you will not receive offers from other companies or organisations as a result of giving your details to us. We do not sell, rent or exchange your personal information with any third party for commercial reasons. By submitting your data on the site, you are saying that: (a) the content is yours, and (b) you agree that the content can be used by this project, and (c) you agree that your data can be made publicly available for wider use.
We may need to share limited information with our service providers who help us to prepare and send you our communications e.g. Mail Chimp. However, we will not allow these organisations to use your data for their own purposes and will take care to ensure that they keep your data secure. We have a legal duty to ensure that we hold up-to-date information about our supporters (e.g. if you move house, we have a duty to remove your old address). From time to time we will ask a trusted third party to cleanse the data that we have for our supporters. This means that our trusted supplier will use records that are in the public domain such as the Postcode Address File to remove out of date information
Update your information or unsubscribe
We believe that we can only save our natural world by working together. We understand that it is important to our supporters that we stay in touch with them. If your information changes, or you no longer desire our service, you may contact us using our details provided above. Or you can simply unsubscribe in our email communications.
How to make a subject access request
If you would like to request all the information about you that we hold for any of the Just One Ocean projects, please contact us at email@example.com We will process your request within 30 calendar days. In the case that we need further information from you to be sure of your identity (for example if you have the same name as someone else that we hold information about) we could take up to 40 days from the day that the identity is verified.
